Big D and the Kids Table Show - February 11, 2009 [13 Feb 2009|11:37am]

Show review for the Big D show this week...

I had never been to the Paradise before. Which is absurd because I've been to 300+ shows in my life and never one there. The venue is small, has a crappily designed layout, and yet has so much potential. And $4 PBR tallboys? Lame.

The show itself was weird. The band didn't come out blazing with energy like they usually do. The crowd was small and also wasn't giving much for the band to feed on. I've never seen this dynamic at a Big D show before. It was odd. Dave McWane said "This is different. It's like when you sleep over someone's house for the first time. It's not bad...it's just different." I agreed.

They played some good tunes: 175, Shining On, If We Want To, Little Bitch, Noise Complaint, Breaking The Bottle, The One. The set was only like 40 minutes. Overall, an average show. Nothing great, nothing horrible.

Thought some of you might be interested in the fact that someone actually used a Big D song for analysis. Yeah that would be me. For my Comm and U.S. Cultural Studies class, I used the song "LA.X" (yeah the one that says 'fuck' over and over lol) to discuss the topics of representation, resistance, class and power. This made me happy. It is always awesome to write a paper on someone/something you are interested in.

has anyone else here picked up the new dropkick murphys album? what do you think of it? it just came out a few weeks ago and i can't stop listening to it. I really love the title track, the warriors code. if you don't have the album yet you can listen to a few of the songs here on Epitaph's site. has anyone seen them on warped tour this summer? what did you think of their show? boston's boys are doing it again!

for those of you who live in boston and saw big d last friday.

it was a pretty funshow for the most part. not the best ive seen big d play at all, but still a damn good time. they didnt play 'those kids suck' which was a dissapointment.

big d is fucking sweet though. no lie, i feel bad for anyone who doesnt get to experience a big d home show. because i honestly dont think it would be the same or as good at all seeing them anywhere but in boston.

This post might be kind of... "off-topic", since it doesn't really involve Big D, but yeah...

I was wondering if anybody knows of a site or anything that has lyrics to the songs found on the Drexel side of the Shot by Lammi split? It'd be awesome if you guys could help me. Thanks.

BOSTON and NEW ENGLAND

BIG D AND THE KIDS TABLE is shooting a video for LAX this May. I believe it will be around the 9th at the bar CHARLIES in Harvard Square.

We want to pack the fucking place and have the sickest east coast representation of punk-ska ever. So, do you want to come down and be apart of it...? I hope so.

Soon, we will post an e-mail addres for questions and will soon post all the info you need to get down there and be in the video.

It will be a long long day, with a lot of waiting around - but its fucking worth it.

So, more info on the way...

Oh and please, only badass fucking people, who are crazy and cool as shit come down. No wimps...

Just saw Big D [with The Know-How] in New Orleans last night and took a bunch of pictures.

Anyone interested:
Big D specific pictures are here.
General pictures from the show are here.

Here are a couple favorites from Big D's set.
[A lot are of Paul and Sean, because I couldn't move much without getting slammed into / elbowed by stupid testosterone-pumped teenagers craving punk shows, but it's cool.]

PIXXXCollapse )

Cypress Hall is probably the worst venue in all of New Orleans, but it's one of only four or so that regularly stage all ages shows. It's pretty ridiculous, but people are trying to do something about it. Really, I doubt that anyone cares much about this, but yeah, well, uh. The shittiness of the venue is the reason why there is just a 10 sqft. stage and everyone else has to sit on the floor.

Regardless, though, it was a good show!

Cheers.

Story time! [22 Feb 2005|10:03pm]

[ mood | tired ]

Alright, so I was in summer school last July and as some of you may know, school in summer starts mad early. I was sitting in my desk, and my friend Shawn came in, as he was in the same class. He asked what I was listening to, and I happened to be listening to Big D at the same time...after telling him who I was listening to, I gave him a little description of what they sounded like. When I was done, he kept giving me this weird look, and I finally asked why...

"Karissa, I'm pretty sure you just said you're listening to a band called Big D And The Disabled..."

I guess I was really tired and kept slurring everything I said.

Now I can't walk down the hallway at school without Shawn yelling at me "HEY WHEN ARE GONNA GO SEE BIG D AND THE DISABLED?! COME ON, BIG D AND THE RETARDED KIDS TABLE! LET'S GO!"

Aha, it makes me laugh. And just so this post isn't full of crap and text only A couple [and by a couple, I mean two] of pictures from when they played Guelph last...Collapse )
